Zeds Dead reunite with Imanu and Mkla on new single ‘runaway’
Zeds Dead have unveiled a new collaborative single, Runaway, teaming up once again with Rotterdam-based producer IMANU and Toronto vocalist MKLA. Out now via their Deadbeats imprint, the track arrives as a tightly constructed meeting point between cinematic future bass and forward-leaning drum & bass, balancing emotional weight with technical precision.
Runaway opens in deceptive calm, easing listeners into a luminous yet weighty first drop before sharply pivoting into a high-velocity second act shaped by IMANU’s razor-edged DnB sensibility. The contrast feels intentional rather than abrupt, with MKLA’s delicate but commanding vocal performance acting as the connective tissue. Her presence anchors the track emotionally, guiding it through moments of restraint and release while allowing the producers’ contrasting approaches to coexist without dilution.
For Zeds Dead, the single marks their first official release since 2025’s Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, a project that further expanded their long-running narrative universe. The duo recently sold out their 12th consecutive Deadrocks event at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, reinforcing their continued cultural relevance more than a decade into their career. Runaway also reunites them with MKLA, following earlier collaborations Alive and In My Head, and continues a creative partnership rooted in melody-driven, emotionally resonant club music.
The release follows a period of creative density for all parties involved. Zeds Dead recently premiered Channel Flipping 2: Only You via Billboard, expanding on the audiovisual world of Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness. Meanwhile, IMANU comes off the back of a headline De Verte showcase in collaboration with Mixmag LAB during ADE, recorded live at Melkweg, highlighting the evolution of his genre-fluid live performance style and visual language.
With Runaway, the three artists converge around a shared emotional clarity rather than genre allegiance, delivering a track that feels both expansive and tightly focused. It’s a release that reflects where each of them currently stands: confident in form, restless in intent, and willing to let contrast do the heavy lifting.
‘Runaway’ is out now via Deadbeats.
