Munich Duo Schrotthagen Bridge Film Scoring and Cinematic Techno on ‘Neue Welt’
Sitting at the compelling intersection where film scoring meets the driving pulse of underground club culture, Munich duo Schrotthagen announce their third studio album, ‘Neue Welt’, arriving 27th November 2026 via Universal Music. Comprising award-winning composer Giovanni Berg (30) and multi-award-winning film scoring veteran and Grimme Prize recipient Dieter Schleip (64), the project represents the duo's most conceptually ambitious statement in their self-defined Cinematic Techno sound to date.
Since their spontaneous 2023 studio origin, Schrotthagen have approached electronic music through the lens of a film score. Bridging a 34-year generational gap, their partnership draws upon backgrounds spanning classical composition, jazz, punk, and traditional film scoring to create a truly singular aesthetic.
"Una Noche": Analog Soul and Storytelling Under the Moonlight
With “Una Noche”, Schrotthagen deliver a centerpiece track that perfectly captures the essence of their sound: driving club energy, cinematic atmosphere, and Spanish vocals that tell more than they explain. Rather than relying on obvious hooks or interchangeable dancefloor phrases, the duo creates space for imagery, emotion, and storytelling.
At the heart of the track is a night beneath the moonlight, one of those unplanned nights that linger long after they have ended. The Spanish lyrics speak of longing, freedom, and the quiet moment when everything else fades into the background. Musically, “Una Noche” reveals a particularly organic side of Schrotthagen. Embracing real performances and analog elements, live bass, authentic vocals, and live-recorded instruments merge with driving techno grooves, resulting in a sound that feels warm, raw, and immediate all at once.
This contrast gives “Una Noche” its distinctive character: precise and powerful enough for peak-time club sets, yet filled with the subtle dynamics, dynamics, and textures that only emerge when real instruments meet electronic production.
The Dream Machine and the 'Neue Welt' Vision
This combination of analog warmth and modern club music reflects the central philosophy behind ‘Neue Welt’. Positioned between an analog past and a digital present, the album serves as the third chapter in an overarching conceptual journey. While 2024’s Sturm und Drang examined artistic freedom and 2025’s Nostalgie und Traurigkeit explored Romanticism and memory, ‘Neue Welt’ shifts its gaze toward the future, asking: are our dreams still truly our own?
Rooted in their observations on social media saturation, the album translates this inquiry into a dystopian narrative titled the Dream Machine—a fictional world in which youth connect themselves to a device capable of generating tailored, ideal dreams, escaping into a synthetic paradise while their physical bodies decay.
Sonically, ‘Neue Welt’ explores the friction between the organic and the synthetic, merging electronic rhythms with guest vocalists, Mellotron textures, and traditional yodelling to chart a "metamorphosis from this world to the next."
This cinematic world expands far beyond the studio into an immersive live production incorporating reactive staging, architectural light design, and performance art techniques. Following sold-out European runs and a digital footprint exceeding 924K monthly listeners on Spotify, Schrotthagen will bring ‘Neue Welt’ across Europe this autumn, culminating in a landmark hometown show at Tonhalle München on December 12th.
