Juliet Fox Opens Up Motherhood And Electronic Music With ‘The Mother Frequency’

Australian techno DJ and producer Juliet Fox is putting a conversation rarely given enough space in electronic music at the centre of a new podcast series. The Mother Frequency brings together artists who are also mothers to talk about what happens when touring, creativity, ambition and an industry built around nightlife collide with pregnancy, family and a completely different rhythm of life.

Rather than treating motherhood as something separate from an artist’s career, the series looks directly at how the two identities exist alongside each other. The conversations move through the practical realities of travelling and performing, but also into questions around identity, pressure, creativity and the personal shifts that can happen after becoming a mother. There is no attempt to package the experience into a clean story about finding the perfect balance. Instead, Fox gives each guest room to talk about what that balance actually looks like for them.

The first three episodes bring three different perspectives into that conversation. Melbourne DJ Sunshine joins Fox for the opening episode, speaking about motherhood, identity and staying connected to yourself while life and career begin operating under different conditions. Berlin-based DJ and producer Simina Grigoriu follows in Episode Two, where the discussion moves through resilience, raising a family alongside an international electronic music career and the ways motherhood can alter an artist’s relationship with creativity.

Episode Three brings Venezuelan-born, Barcelona-based DJ and producer Marian Ariss into the series. Her conversation with Fox traces the experience from pregnancy into motherhood, including the reality of maintaining momentum in an industry where late nights, weekends away and constant travel are often treated as normal working conditions. The pair also discuss changing priorities, the pressures placed on women inside electronic music and the complicated idea that becoming a mother somehow needs to come at the expense of creative ambition.

That tension gives The Mother Frequency its reason for existing. Electronic music has spent decades talking about touring, burnout, mental health and the physical demands of nightlife, but motherhood introduces another set of realities that can remain largely invisible behind line-ups, release schedules and social media. For women navigating both worlds, the question is not simply how to “have it all”, but how the structures surrounding an artist respond when their life changes.

Fox approaches that question through experience rather than abstraction. By sitting down with other mothers working inside electronic music, the podcast creates space for the messy parts of the conversation: changing identities, altered priorities, logistical compromises, ambition, exhaustion and the desire to remain an artist without pretending motherhood has changed nothing. Each guest arrives with a different career, background and relationship with the industry, making it clear that there is no single version of what being a mother in dance music looks like.

With Sunshine, Simina Grigoriu and Marian Ariss opening the series, The Mother Frequency starts from a simple premise that feels overdue: motherhood does not exist outside music culture simply because we rarely hear it discussed within it. These artists are still DJs, producers and working musicians, but they are also navigating a part of life that fundamentally changes how time, work and identity are understood. Fox is giving that experience somewhere to be spoken about without reducing it to either sacrifice or empowerment.

The Mother Frequency is available now, with the first three episodes featuring Sunshine, Simina Grigoriu and Marian Ariss.
