Dutch National Ballet to open ADE 2026 at Gashouder with ‘Swan Lake Remixed’
The one-off production will bring ballet, hip-hop, electronic music and digital art to the Gashouder as part of ADE’s 30 YEARS Icon Series
Dutch National Ballet and ISH Dance Collective will open the cultural programme of Amsterdam Dance Event 2026 with Swan Lake Remixed for ADE, a new large-scale production taking place at Amsterdam’s Gashouder on Wednesday, October 21.
Created specifically for ADE, the performance reimagines one of classical ballet’s most recognisable works through a combination of ballet, hip-hop dance, electronic music and digital art.
Dancers from Dutch National Ballet and its Junior Company will perform alongside members of ISH Dance Collective and guest dancers from across different disciplines, transforming the Gashouder into the setting for a contemporary interpretation of Swan Lake.
Rather than simply retelling the original ballet, Swan Lake Remixed will use its central themes of longing, freedom, temptation and the tension between light and darkness as a starting point for the new production. Questions around identity, personal freedom and the pull between opposing forces will be explored through the meeting of different dance and musical traditions.
The project continues a decade-long creative relationship between Dutch National Ballet and ISH Dance Collective. Previous collaborations including GRIMM and Dorian have brought classical ballet together with hip-hop and other contemporary dance forms.
Swan Lake Remixed for ADE marks the first collaboration of this scale between Amsterdam Dance Event, Gashouder, Dutch National Ballet, ISH Dance Collective and concept and production agency XSAGA.
The performance forms part of ADE’s 30 YEARS Icon Series, a programme created around the festival’s 30th anniversary that brings together electronic music culture, established institutions and emerging creative voices while looking at both the history and future of the scene.
The production also arrives alongside several milestones for those involved. Swan Lake celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2027, Dutch National Ballet and ISH Dance Collective mark 10 years of collaboration, while XSAGA celebrates its 25th anniversary.
